Founded in 2024, Construction for Women is Gallaway’s dedicated programme to support and champion women across the construction industry.
Through training programmes, work placements, mentorship and taster sessions, we are creating accessible pathways for women to enter and succeed in construction.
By tackling barriers to entry and providing structured support, Construction for Women is helping to build a more inclusive, diverse and sustainable future for the industry.
Our fully-funded 12-week programme offers women intensive, hands-on training designed to prepare them for successful careers in construction.
Participants gain industry-recognised qualifications and CSCS certification - alongside employability support, mentorship, and over 50 hours of structured on-site work experience.
The programme guarantees a direct pathway into paid construction employment for all graduates, and access to a network of linkeminded alumni alongside a year long mentorship for their first year in industry.
We work closely with partners to provide access to real job opportunities and work placements. These roles are designed to be supportive, meaningful, and aligned with long-term career development.
Our mentorship programme pairs mentees with experienced industry professional mentors.
Through these mentorships, participants gain expert guidance & support to further their career ambitions in the built environment. We have established a network of leading industry professionals committed to helping us build women's futures.
Through our ambassador programme, we empower women to get involved with our cause.
Ambassadors represent Construction For Women through participation in industry events and organisation events like our taster days.
Our ambassadors act as role models and advocates, helping to challenge stereotypes and inspire more women to explore careers in construction.
Working in women's prison's ex-offenders receive training and employability support, helping individuals gain valuable, industry-recognised qualifications, including CSCS certification.
Post-release placements & employment opportunities help secure participants futures post-release.
Short, engaging sessions that give school-aged girls a hands-on introduction to construction. These taster days, held at construction colleges, include expert-led presentations and practical workshops.
282,000 women work in construction, compared to 1,797,000 men, this represents just 13.6% of the total workforce.
Fewer than 2% of women in the sector work on-site, highlighting a persistent gender divide in manual and technical roles.
Women face significant barriers in construction, including pay disparities, limited career progression, gender bias, and a lack of female role models.
Construction For Women was founded to challenge the long-standing gender imbalance in construction, where women currently make up just 14% of the workforce - and only around 1% of those on-site roles.
We are actively dismantling the barriers to entry by creating new pathways into the sector, ensuring that passion and potential are recognised and rewarded, regardless of gender.
Through education, advocacy, and action, we are setting a new standard for what inclusion in construction should look like.
We are committed to helping women not just enter the construction industry, but thrive within it.
Our programme offers a full range of support - from hands-on taster sessions and site placements, to formal qualifications, employability training and mentorship opportunities.
By equipping women with the skills, experience and confidence they need, we are laying the foundations for long-term, successful careers across every level of the built environment.
The future of construction depends on diversity of talent, ideas and experience.By empowering women to access and succeed in the sector, we are addressing critical skills shortages while bringing fresh perspectives to an industry undergoing rapid change.
Through our work, we are helping to build a construction sector that is more innovative, resilient and representative of the communities it serves.
True change is not measured by good intentions but by real outcomes.
We work in collaboration with education providers, employers and industry leaders to drive structural change within construction - from improving recruitment practices to influencing workplace culture.
By embedding equality, diversity and inclusion into the heart of how the industry operates, we are creating opportunities today that will shape a stronger, fairer future for tomorrow.
